fabulouswomen520@earthlink.net, (212) 591-2111 1. Why do you want to be on the Local Station Board? I want to deepen my dedication to the vitality of WBAI as a progressive station by contributing my skills and expertise. 2. How do you envision the Local Station Board working with the Pacifica Foundation, WBAI and the community? We could have more joint programming between the various Pacifica LSBs and the National Board, and a newsletter produced by the WBAI LSB that could extend communication between itself, the listeners, the staff and the other LSBs. 3. How could the station better serve its listeners? We could continue to outreach to the listeners, listen to their needs and wants, and diversify our programming and staff to include more types of voices. 4. Describe some actions you would take to increase the influence of the station in underrepresented communities and to increase the diversity of the listening audience? We could distribute flyers for special radio programs at relevant events and centers, do aggressive outreach at public events such as street fairs, and run ads in local newspapers. 5. What sources of funding, other than listener donations, do you feel WBAI should solicit? We should have fundraisers that include, but extend beyond, the listeners, such as black-tie awards dinners and art auctions. 6. Please state briefly the skills, experience, educational background, work history, organizational affiliations, areas of community service, areas of interest and expertise that you would bring to the Pacifica network as a member of the Local Station Board. I have a Master's Degree in supervision and administration in early childhood education. I have been an early childhood educator for the New York State Department of Social Services as well as an adjunct at NYC Community College. I also have a law degree, have been a staff attorney at Bronx Legal Services, representing poor people in landlord/tenant and family law matters. I am currently a solo legal practitioner. I have served on several nonprofit boards, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the YWCA of Yonkers, and I currently serve on the boards of Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Legal Services Corporation and the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium. 7. Do you anticipate missing any Local Station Board meetings due to family or job related problems or inadequate transportation? No. 8 On which Local Station Board committees are you interested in actively serving? If you are a current Local Station Board member, on which committees do you currently serve? I am interested in serving on the Membership, Outreach and Fundraising Committee, where I would work hard on creative off-air fundraising projects. .Contact: fabulouswomen520@earthlink.net |
